Spartan Weekend Morzine

Last weekend Spartan race descended in to Morzine, and what a weekend it was!! There was an incredible atmosphere in town and everyone was getting into the Spartan spirit as over 8,000 people took part in the races over the 2 days of races with 4 different event distances available to take part in. The Sprint 6k+, the Super 12k+, the Beast 22k+ and the big bad Ultra Beast 42k+ which was the first race of this distance to be held in France, but defiantly not for the faint hearted.

As I limped across the finish line in a whole world of pain, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor buggers who had to do that all over again as the incline on this course, is just savage as you may imagine in a mountain location. Morzine lends its self very well to being the perfect Spartan race location and while it was seriously challenging I did remember to look up and soak in the incredible views before sliding back down the mountain on my backside. Also taking a moment to dip into the ice cool cascade before hauling myself up the cargo net again was a pretty amazing experience. There was also the junior event, which was amazing to see all the little Spartans getting down and muddy too, and our very own mini Spartan was also very proud of his medal.

Myself and my friend took part in the Beast race which was 25km of mud (lots of mud), hills and plenty of obstacles a 1,842m elevation as the course took us right to the very top of Pointe De Nyon, and it was a killer. I have done a lot of Spartan races over the years and this was the toughest one by far. They have a full range of obstacles for you to conquer from monkey bars, rope climbs, river walks, sand bag carries, 8ft walls and a spear throw to just name a few. For any obstacle that you can’t complete you get the penalty of 30 painstaking burpies.

We had some friends from our hometown of Blackpool staying over at Chalet Symphony and we had the most incredible few days and are really looking forward to hosting this event here again next year. If you love a challenge we would love to have you come and join our team, so make sure you are on our priority list and we will be in touch later in the year when next years dates get released.
